The Virtue of Humility

A Consideration of God’s Blessings and Human Weakness

Dear reader, in today’s world, exceptional traits are hard to come by, except for those who are self-aware and aware of their standing. These qualities include humility and the refusal to put oneself above others. How can this helpless human being be so arrogant and proud of God's servants, made from an unclean drop that he or she hurries to cleanse when it spills on clothing? Or how can someone made of dried clay, old muck, and sticky clay behave impudently like a pottery strut?

What those little organisms (pathogenic bacteria and viruses) accomplish in our bodies, where they may transform a strong, upright man into a bedridden and fatigued one, is one of the most basic manifestations of human frailty. Some of them are so minute that they are invisible to the unaided eye, and some of them can even be fatal. After that, though, why do we get so puffed up, haughty, insolent, and enraged that we can’t even drive away the most basic of creatures from ourselves?

The person standing in front of the extended beach, my dear reader, who can only view a little portion of it before their vision is blocked off, is proof of the weakness.
