The Truth About Self-Care
It’s Not What You Think
Self-care has many recent years been characterized as an activity characterized as taking care of oneself and pampering oneself, which is usually said to include taking a bath, putting on a face mask, and treating oneself to sweets.
These are some of the activities people undertake to do, but real self-care is more than just fun. It is or should be a conscious process of making the right healthy decisions in your life.
The misconception
Most people probably think that self-care means pampering oneself and lying in bed for hours. Social media seems to define it as fancy spa days or fancy holidays. This approach also results in a very sanitized view of self-care because it nabs what is meant by self-care and can make it seem like a luxury or something frivolous.
The reality
Authentic self-care, as I would like it to be understood, includes:
- Setting boundaries; Being able to make a decision or better put a refusal on what you consider is the excess of work pressure.
- Prioritizing sleep: providing you with adequate sleep to enable you to perform your tasks as expected.
