Alternatively, you may be insulted. “I have children,” you think. “You have to have things when you have kids.” But minimalism is not about self-denial. It’s not about your family sitting down in a circle of cheering relatives to watch you all open gifts and gasp with pleasure as you all find out who got the most stuff. It’s about simplifying life so that you and your children have time for the important things: each other, physical activity, and happy memories.
